Privacy Policy
This policy explains what GuidePal collects, why, and the control you have over it. Plain language, no surprises.
Information we collect
- Account: your email and a display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile (name, email) from Google.
- Your activity: reviews, ratings, photos you upload, favorites, trip lists, and the people you follow.
- Location:only when you tap "Near me," and only to sort nearby places. We don't store your precise location.
- Technical: basic logs (IP, device, errors) needed to run and secure the service.
How we use it
- To run core features: search, maps, reviews, saving, and following.
- To enforce your review privacy setting (public, private, or hidden).
- To prevent abuse and moderate reported content.
Your review privacy
You choose who can see your reviews in account settings: Public (everyone), Private (only you), or Hidden (only followers you've approved). You can change this at any time, and it applies going forward and retroactively.
Sharing
We don't sell your personal data. We share data with service providers that power the app: Google (places & photos, sign-in), Ticketmaster (events), and our hosting and database providers, only as needed to operate GuidePal.
Your choices
- Edit your display name and review privacy in settings.
- Delete individual reviews at any time.
- Request access to, or deletion of, your account data by emailing hello@guidepal.app.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you ask us to delete it, we remove your account and associated content, except where we must retain records to comply with the law.
